This episode of The Accessible Stall was sponsored by Getting Hired.
Getting Hired is a resource that connects job seekers with disabilities to employers who are looking to hire people with disabilities. They are a recruitment solution dedicated to helping inclusive employers hire professional individuals and veterans with disabilities.
We were joined by Sarah McMullen, who works with employers to achieve diverse and inclusive workplaces with a specific focus on disability. She has spent her professional career implementing strategies for disability inclusion programs within Fortune 500 companies. She is widely known throughout the space for her expertise on creating inclusive candidate experiences, cultures and understanding the impacts of unconscious bias.
Sarah believes that inclusion, equity and representation of all diverse people is what creates successful businesses. She attributes her passion for this to her former professional experience in working at a non-profit for people with disabilities and having immediate family members with non-apparent disabilities.
This was an important episode for us to make. October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. The unemployment rate is still more than double that for people with disabilities compared to people without. Since the pandemic, one in five people with disabilities have lost their jobs versus one in seven are compared to one in seven people without disabilities.
